Mey Highland Games

August 1, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Mey Highland Games, held annually on the first Saturday of August in John O’Groats, Caithness, began in 1970 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother’s 70th birthday. Known for its inclusive nature, the event features traditional Highland competitions such as caber tossing, tug of war, hammer throw, piping, and Highland dancing, alongside adaptive and ladies’ events. HRH King Charles III, who succeeded his grandmother as Chieftain in 2002, attends regularly during his summer stay at the Castle of Mey. The Games have grown into a vibrant celebration of Scottish culture and community spirit, attracting athletes and visitors from across the UK and beyond.
