Wick Harbour was developed from circa 1803 to support the booming herring industry, The Harbour is still being used for the fishing industry, cargo business, offshore renewables and leisure.

Leisure Activities

Wick is the perfect spot for water-based adventures. With its stunning coastline and rich natural history, there’s something for everyone. Our marina offers 80 fully serviced berths, ideal for sailing or cruising along a bird- and marine-life-rich shoreline.

Traveling the famous NC500 route? Wick makes an excellent stop to relax and enjoy nature at its best.

Fishing at Wick Harbour

Established as a harbour in 1803 to serve the thriving herring industry, Wick remains an active fishing port today. While no longer a designated white fish landing port, vessels still land catches here thanks to its proximity to prime fishing grounds and excellent facilities.

The harbour supports a successful shellfish trade, landing lobster, scallops, crab, and prawns—and is keen to see this traditional industry grow further.

Commercial Operations

Our Commercial Quay accommodates cargo vessels and features two Heavy Lift Pads installed in 2014, enabling the handling of diverse heavy cargo. Wick Harbour manages trade in coal, lime, timber, road salt, wind farm components, steel pipe, and oil-related equipment.

With Beatrice Offshore Windfarm Ltd establishing its O&M base here for the next 25–50 years, the port is set for significant growth in business and vessel activity.

Oil & Gas

As one of the closest ports to North Sea installations, Wick offers shorter transit times and the expertise to handle redundant subsea equipment and associated hazardous waste.

A new deep-water berth (9–13m) is planned to support this growing sector alongside traditional services.

Offshore Renewables

Wick is ideally located to support offshore renewable projects in the Moray Firth, Pentland Firth, and Orkney waters. Its proximity to major wind farm developments has already secured Wick as the Operations & Maintenance base for the Beatrice Offshore Windfarm.

This strategic position offers operators significant cost savings and strengthens Wick Harbour’s role in the growing renewables sector.
