Just a short stroll from the heart of Scotland’s most northerly town, Thurso Beach is an easy to reach spot with picturesque views across the Pentland Firth to Orkney.  The small sheltered bay is mix of sand and shingle, with calm waters that are perfect for paddling on a summer’s day.

This location is a great place to unwind with an ice cream and watch out for seals and seabirds. The beach is popular with families, and children love rock-pooling here. Its close locality to shops and cafes makes it an easy choice for a day out, lunch time picnic or after school play date or catch up with friends.

On-street parking is available nearby, and there are public toilets and a children’s play area within easy walking distance. The coastal walk stretching from Thurso East to Holborn Head has spectacular views, including the MV Hamnavoe ferry sailing between Scrabster and Stromness and is great for blowing off the cobwebs.

Thurso East is also internationally recognised for its world-class surfing, with its legendary reef break drawing surfers from around the globe, and hosting national surfing championships.
