The Trinkie, Wick

Perched on the dramatic cliffs of Wick’s South Head, The Trinkie is a hidden gem of the Scottish Highlands – a tidal seawater pool carved from a former quarry and filled by the North Sea itself. With its rugged beauty, rich history, and community spirit, The Trinkie offers a truly unforgettable outdoor swimming experience.

Formally opened in the 1920s, the Trinkie has served generations of swimmers, sunbathers, and sea lovers. Maintained by the dedicated Trinkie Heritage Preservation Group, the pool is cleaned and painted annually, preserving its charm for future visitors.

A popular family picnic spot, here outdoor swimmers brave the bracing waters, and photographers capture the stunning coastal views.

From the poolside, you can gaze out over the North Sea, with the chance to spot seals, seabirds, and even dolphins. The nearby coastal paths offer scenic walks to Old Wick Castle or back into the historic town of Wick, making The Trinkie a perfect stop on a day of exploration.

Nearby parking is available at the road end.
