Climb Stac Polliadh and discover Scotland's best wee mountain.

Rising to 612 metres, Stac Pollaidh (pronounced “Stack Polly”) may be modest in height, but it offers one of the most dramatic and rewarding short hikes in the Scottish Highlands. Located in the Assynt region, this sandstone ridge is famed for its jagged pinnacles, steep gullies, and panoramic views that rival those from much taller peaks.

The most popular route begins at the dedicated car park off the road to Achiltibuie, just west of Ullapool. A well-maintained path zigzags through moorland and climbs steadily to the summit ridge. Most walkers reach the eastern summit with ease, while the true western summit requires a short scramble and a good head for heights. Even without tagging the highest point, the views over Loch Lurgainn, Suilven, Cul Mor, and the Inverpolly hills are spectacular.

Stac Pollaidh is a perfect half-day adventure, combining accessibility with big mountain character. It’s especially popular with North Coast 500 travellers looking for a scenic detour.
