The Old Stables’ and ‘The Servants’ Quarters’ are our two fully fitted, self catered holiday let annexes, here at Pentland View, Canisbay – recently refurbished to a high standard and we’ve had some lovely feedback from guests.
We’re near John o’Groats a local tourist mecca, in the far north of Scotland. Our properties overlooks the dramatic Pentland Firth and Orkney – and are very close to the Gills Bay Ferry which runs regular day trips to the Orkneys.
The building has a fascinating history—originally a two-room thatched croft from the early 1800s, later part of the Castle of Mey estate, then a youth hostel before we restored it in 2014.
Each retreat offers a private entrance, deck with views of the Pentland Firth or surrounding countryside, and a spacious open-plan living area with a cosy sofa, bedroom, and modern bathroom—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.
Nearby, enjoy local dining at John o’Groats or Dunnet, coffee at Annie’s or Stacks Deli, and whisky tasting at 8 Doors Distillery. Popular attractions include the Castle and Gardens of Mey, Duncansby Stacks, Whaligoe Steps, Camster Cairns, and Dunnet Head.
We also run RobbieMac Tours & Ancestry so offer those services to guests. About to book a stay with us here in Scotland? Why not select from our 2025 tours and ancestry research services as optional extras?
Spend time with us here, and fall in love with the Far North too! We look forward to welcoming you to Pentland View and our retreats – ‘The Servants’ Quarters’ and ‘The Old Stables’. Come, explore the hospitality of the north and meet the locals and even try some of our local brews with a tasting or two!
