Stay in the Lighthouse Keepers’ Cottages in the grounds of the most northerly point on the Scottish mainland. Views to Orkney, the Old Man of Hoy, the hills of the west and Cape Wrath. Wildlife watching - seabirds including puffins and even whales.
Dunnet Head Lighthouse offers a truly unique experience. Perched atop dramatic 300ft cliffs and built in 1831 by Robert Stevenson, the lighthouse and its former keepers’ cottages are now Grade B Listed.
Find yourself surrounded by vast moorland and spectacular sea cliffs. The area is perfect for walking and wildlife spotting. In season, thousands of seabirds, including puffins, nest here, and the cliffs offer excellent views for whale and dolphin watching.
You will often hear the “Seal song” drifting up from nearby Brough Bay, where seals bask on the rocks. The historic slipway, once used for lighthouse supplies, now serves as a launch point for kayaks for those looking for some sea adventures.
On the west side, Dwarwick Pier marks the start of a stunning cliff-top walk to Peedie Beach, a hidden gem accessible only at low tide. A little further lies Dunnet’s golden sands and dunes, with tranquil forest walks nearby.
