Ben Stack
Standing at 721 metres, Ben Stack is a prominent and beautifully shaped peak in Sutherland, northwest Scotland
Though not a Munro, it is a Graham with significant prominence, offering a short but steep climb and exceptional views over the wild landscapes of Assynt and the North Coast. Its isolated position and conical form make it a standout feature in the region.
The most popular ascent begins near Achfary, just off the A838, following a faint path up the southeast ridge known as Leathad na Stioma. The initial approach is boggy and pathless, but the route soon climbs steeply along a rocky spine to the summit. The final push involves a steep grassy cone, reminiscent of a castle keep, leading to a twin-peaked summit ridge. From here, walkers are rewarded with panoramic views of Arkle, Foinaven, Quinag, and the loch-studded wilderness stretching to the Atlantic coast.
