Dunbeath Heritage Trust

Dunbeath Heritage Centre developed an engaging approach to landscape interpretation - through art installations, photography and our unique ‘floor map’, visitors can explore a rich historical, archaeological and literary landscape.

By taking a pilgrimage of discovery along the ‘Highland River’ made famous by Dunbeath-born author, Neil M Gunn, visitors can explore the landscape beyond the Highlands.  We are an Accredited Museum & have on display Caithness archaeology, from Neolithic tools, Bronze Age swords, pottery, Iron Age, Viking burial goods & Pictish artefacts, to a recently-recovered Medieval coin hoard. Research area for local Genealogy records & historical harbour buildings in our care include the ice-house, Fishermen's Gear-store and Salmon Bothy.
