The first all-electric lighthouse in Scotland Strathy Point Lighthouse was designed by P H Hyslop and became operational in 1958. The Strathy Point light was long argued for and filled one of the last black spots on the Scottish coast. The lighthouse was removed from service in 2012, due to the advancement of modern navigational equipment, and the old keepers quarters are now in private ownership.
