Gualin House is about eight kilometres from Durness village square on the A838 from Rhiconich, overlooking the entrance to Strath Dionard. It was built in the 1880s as a hotel by the Duke of Sutherland, and is now a fishing and shooting lodge.
Purchased by Commander Ferguson with part of the River Dionard in 1932 from the Elliot Family of Balnakeil, its situation gives a good starting point for an abundance of splendid walks.
