Sutherland Sessions: Mairearad Green and Mike Vass

Renowned for her deft and lyrical accordion style, Mairearad is one of Scotland’s finest musical exports. In great demand as a performer and composer, Mairearad can often be seen on stage with Anna Massie, King Creosote, Tryst and Mike Vass. She has also previously toured with Karine Polwart, Eddi Reader, Box Club, The Poozies and The Unusual Suspects.

With composition a lifelong passion of Mairearad’s, many of her tunes are fast becoming staples in sessions throughout Scotland, and further afield, with “Maggie West’s Waltz” and “Dram Behind the Curtain” amongst the favourites.

Mike Vass is one of the most creative forces on the Scottish music scene. As a musician, composer, producer and arranger Vass has amassed a body of work that encompasses early appearances as a livewire young fiddler, collaborations with many of the leading voices among today’s Scots and Gaelic tradition bearers, delivering multi-media performances, overseeing critically acclaimed recordings, and scoring for prestigious ensembles.
