Combining cultural authenticity with an adventurous musical streak, Lewis-born Gaelic singer Mischa Macpherson has been hailed as “one of the most exciting and fully rounded talents to emerge from the Scottish scene in many a year” (Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2). Her “evocative and stirring” vocals have earned her widespread recognition, including the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and the Gaelic Singer of the Year title, alongside a career captivating audiences worldwide — from Europe to Asia, Australia, and beyond. For this year’s Blas Festival, she is joined by award-winning fiddler Charlie Stewart, celebrated for his expressive and innovative playing, and acclaimed accompanist Alistair Iain Paterson, whose sensitivity on piano and harmonium has made him a much sought-after collaborator across the traditional music scene.
Amy Henderson, a highly skilled accordionist and singer and Ewan MacPherson, a renowned singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, both based in the Highlands have come together in a newly formed duo. Together, their playing styles complement one other as they perform music rooted in Scottish traditions, while combining their own contemporary compositions with a freedom and connection to other musical styles. Amy and Ewan create a warm, dynamic and rich sound together with their blend of instrumentation and voice. The finesse and spark in their arrangements offer a captivating and vibrant atmosphere to their listeners.
