SUMMARY:Blanket Bog Flowers at their Brilliant best!
DESCRIPTION:Discover beautiful Blanket Bog Flowers with Graham Thompson\, A Far North Naturalist. \n\n\nDare to step where most will not\, and discover the botanical secrets of the peatland habitat on The Flows World Heritage Site. \n\n\n\n\nHave you ever wanted to wander out onto the vast expanse of blanket bog here in Sutherland\, but not plucked up the courage! If so\, it’s hardly surprising. It can be daunting having many metres of squidgy peat beneath your feet\, quivering like a jelly (the peat\, if not you personally…). \nWhy not join me this summer to experience it\, whilst admiring the splendid plants that are to be found there\, including: Scottish Eyebright (Euphrasia scottica)\, Pale Butterwort (Pinguicula lustanica)\, Bog Asphodel (Narthecium ossifragum)\, Sundews (Drosera rotundifolia and D. anglica)\, Marsh Lousewort (Pedicularis palustris)\, Cow-wheat (Melampyrum pratense)\, Lesser Butterfly Orchid (Platanthera bifolia)\, Bog Sedge (Carex limosa)\, Few-flowered Sedge (C. pauciflora)\, Dioecious Sedge (C. dioica)\, Deergrass (Tricophorum germanicum)\, Lesser Clubmoss (Selaginella selaginoides). Finding Bog Orchid (Hammarbya paludosa) is also a distinct possibility. Squeeze then sniff some Bog Myrtle! Will it repel midges? We might get the chance to find out! \nWe might find the awesome caterpillars of the Northern Eggar moth. One of the very impressive\, wetland-inhabiting hairy-eyed craneflies found here is Pedicia rivosa… \nLearn a bit about why bogs are so important in locking up carbon\, and what work is being done locally by the RSPB and other landowners to repair bogs that have been damaged by past agricultural and forestry practices. \nHear about the Arctic-alpine flora found in the area. Hear me tell tales of some fantastic insects that are closely associated with the local Red Deer\, and of my encounters with them… \nWe won’t go far off the beaten track. This is just a chance to sample the experience. Wear Wellington boots if you have them. Walking boots and gaiters will suffice. But be prepared to get a bit wet\, just in case! Walking poles with a broad base will be useful to give you traction. \nWe will meet at Forsinard\, in the RSPB car park that is opposite the railway station. We will then drive to the start point (a few minutes away). Car parking at the site is limited to 4 spaces\, with other options a short walk away (5 minutes) but car sharing will be possible to get us all to the start point. \nForsinard railway station is 20 minutes’ walk away from the location\, but anyone coming by train can join me in my car. This walk fits in perfectly between train arrival and departure\, both north- and southbound. \nFind out more and book via Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:White Ground\, Black Water
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Dr Cat Dunn\nWith Alberta Whittle\, Graham Fagen\, Matthew Arthur Williams\, and Tilda Williams Kelly\nOpening: 1st August 2026 \nWhite Ground\, Black Water is a research-led exhibition curated by Dr Cat Dunn\, examining Scotland’s role in Empire\, specifically its deep-rooted but often overlooked entanglements with the Caribbean\, and the complex legacies of displacement\, racial capitalism\, and historical erasure that continue to shape both places today. \nScotland’s extensive participation in the transatlantic slave economy and the management of Caribbean colonies has been marginalised within mainstream historical discourse. Wealth generated from sugar plantations\, enslavement\, and colonial administration flowed back into Scottish society\, funding universities\, landholdings\, and cultural institutions. \nOpening in August 2026\, the exhibition will feature work by Alberta Whittle\, Graham Fagen\, Matthew Arthur Williams\, and Tilda Williams Kelly. Working across video\, performance\, installation\, photography\, and sculpture\, the artists offer ways of seeing that disrupt official histories and invite more nuanced\, embodied understandings of place and power. \nPROGRAMME OF EVENTS\nThe exhibition is accompanied by a public programme curated by Dr Cat Dunn\, beginning with an anchor event designed to ground the research locally\, centre community dialogue\, and build critical context ahead of the exhibition opening. These events mark the start of a longer process of collective enquiry.

SUMMARY:The Man They Call G - LIVE at Grannies Heilan' Home
DESCRIPTION:Parkdean Resorts in association with Anglia Artistes presents your LIVE ACT: The Man They Call G! The best way to describe G is “different”. He is the UK’s most unique and versatile singing impressionist\, presenting an award-winning one-man show like no other. \nAn eclectic mix of music combined with an astonishing range of spoken and sung voice impressions\, all delivered with the trademark zaniness audiences have come to expect from this one-of-a-kind performer: Clever\, quirky and sometimes silly\, with a big dollop of nostalgia! Impressions\, singing\, comedy – There’s something for everyone …and then a bit more! \nA former member of comedy trio The Brother Lees\, G has been a professional performer since 1998\, starting as a Butlin’s Redcoat. Since then he has performed all over the world on cruise ships and in countless venues throughout the UK\, including a headline spot at the London Palladium. He was a member of legendary comedy trio The Brother Lees for four years\, has been the lead singer of a rock band and supported several big name comedians. He became a solo act in 2006. In 2015 he got 4 yeses on Britain’s Got Talent.
