DESCRIPTION:Cycling in the Straths\, the norths friendliest sportive\, returns on 23rd May 2026 with two iconic routes through beautiful Mackay Country. \nChoose from: \n\nThe Strathnaver Challenge:  a 92 km ride leaving Tongue towards Bettyhill\, riders will then head inland through Strathnaver\, scene of some of the most notorious acts in the Highland Clearances\, to Altnaharra\, along Strathmore and back to Tongue.\nThe Ben Hope Trial: a 72 km route with riders starting and finishing in Tongue on a circuit via Altnaharra and Strathmore. DESCRIPTION:A relaxed afternoon screening featuring surf films from Scotland and afar. \nWe will also screen the final film Collecting Light created by participants in our ‘The Living Camera’ project and will have a final closing discussion with artists Jess Holdengrade and Chloe Charlton. Film details below… \nCollecting Light documents the first workshops with The Living Camera project which took place at Lyth Arts Centre with its youth community in 2025. Shot on 16mm\, the film follows a collaborative analogue workshop centred around the site-specific camera obscura\, which transforms into a darkroom and gathering space. Participants are seen constructing pinhole cameras\, foraging local plants and inhabiting the obscura. The film documents how collective and regenerative image-making can support new ways of seeing\, living\, and learning – offering creative tools for the challenges of our time. \nCollecting Light was developed with the same eco-chemistry that was collectively brewed during the workshop – embedding place\, process\, and shared making into its images. \nDuration: 12min

Our annual dinner will be hosted at the Ulbster Arms Hotel on Sunday 11th January – Enjoy a 3 course meal while listening to tales of the River Thurso & meeting new friends. \nThe next morning (Monday 12th January 2026) join us at the Ulbster Arms Hotel to begin our walk down to the river\, where we will bless the river & our guest of honour will make the first cast to officially open the River Thurso for the season ahead. \nWarm up back at the Ulbster Arms Hotel with a cup of tea & bacon roll to finish off the day and have a chat with the local anglers. \nPlease note: The River Thurso season begins on the 11th January every year\, however due to the 11th falling on a Sunday\, on this occasion (2026) we will be holding the opening cast on Monday 12th January 2026\, with the meal falling the day before – The opening cast will resume on the 11th the following year.

DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce The Helmsdale Classic Vehicle Rally will be on Sunday 24th August in the Helmsdale Football Field at 12 – 4:30pm. There will be a wide range of vintage and classic vehicles and everything in between on display. We will be starting out small but we will have food vendors and kids’ activities set up alongside our exhibits to make it a grand day out for the whole family. Helmsdale will be hosting us for the first time\, for our second vehicle rally of the year. We hope this rally will continue to grow in years to come. With this news we would like to invite all exhibits that would wish to enter to please fill in the attached entry form below. \nIf you have any queries regarding entry please do no hesitate to contact Alexander on secretary@csvcvc.com. This is a fantastic opportunity to show off your vehicle or machinery while engaging with a community of likeminded individuals. Deadline for entries is the 17th August. This will be a cash only event so please sure to take plenty of cash for the day. All profits from the show will be going to local charities.

DESCRIPTION:Caithness Show is a traditional agricultural event that has become a great day out for all the family. With livestock classes\, driving turnouts\, show jumping classes\, poultry and wildfowl\, classes for young exhibitors\, Young Farmers Calf Competition\, Dog Show\, Main Ring entertainment and procession of vintage tractors. Along with industrial and flower sections such as: baking\, crafts\, creative and flowers. The Northern Quality Produce Marquee offers a fantastic shopping opportunity and showcases the best food\, drink and artisan crafts in Caithness\, as well as welcoming visitors from further afield. A diverse range of vendors make up the outdoor Trade Stand area\, with stands selling everything from agricultural machinery to toys and artwork\, as well as many informational exhibitors. The show day is rounded off with a buffet dance held in a town centre venue.
