Or perhaps you’re curious about fossils and ancient life – for example\, did you know that the oldest evidence of life in Europe can be found right here in the Geopark? \n\nJoin our Education and Engagement Officer Dr Marie Marsden\, geologist and palaeontologist\, for one of our informal and interactive workshops at The Rock Stop this summer. Suitable for all curious minds and ages! No prior knowledge needed. \nWhat is a Fossil? \nTuesday 25th August \n2:00-3:30pm \nIf you’re interested in ancient life\, come along to this workshop to learn how fossils form\, take a virtual trip to see the fossils of the North West Highlands Geopark\, and get hands-on with some real fossils. \nThese are indoor events\, although we may go outside at the Rock Stop\, weather permitting. \nThe Rock Stop visitor centre is located in Unapool\, one mile south of Kylesku Bridge. \nBooking details will be released shortly. The area has the lowest population density in Europe and exhibits unique geodiversity and biodiversity. As home of the oldest rocks in Europe\, the first identified thrust fault\, the oldest and biggest meteorite impact ejecta and with evidence of the earliest life; the North West Highlands Geopark really is the “Cradle of Geology”.

DESCRIPTION:Another of our favourite photo walks at one of our favourite locations! As always\, we’ll meander through some beautiful spots\, chatting\, taking photographs and enjoying a relaxed day together (and yes… there will be biscuits). \nOur Inspired Photo Walks are friendly\, informal meet-ups designed to combine fresh Highland air with creative encouragement. They’re perfect if you’d like some light guidance\, inspiring surroundings and good company\, without the intensity of a formal workshop. \nThis two-location walk begins at the beautiful Big Burn waterfall trail\, following a winding path through a picturesque wooded gorge. After a relaxed lunch stop\, we’ll head to the stunning grounds of Dunrobin Castle\, focusing on the gardens and external views of this magnificent building. \n  \n10:00: Arrival at the meeting point (details confirmed via email)\, welcome and tea/coffee \n10:30: Walk into the scenic gorge of Big Burn Falls \n12:30: Lunch break (please bring a packed lunch) and relaxed photography chat \n13:15: Short drive (approx. 10 minutes) to Dunrobin Castle \n13:30: Explore the castle grounds and gardens \n15:45: Return for a final hot drink and informal group discussion \n16:00: Departure​ \nPlease note: this itinerary is indicative.
